David was a wonderful neighbour and friend. I remember chuckling the day I collected his mail for him, and realised his name was Lancelot. Rest in peace.
The most gentle godly man I have had the privilege to know. He was always so willing to share his faith and how he became a man who followed God. Praying for peace, comfort and strength from our Heavenly Father for Sue and family.
SYDNEY: Three charges of assaulting policemen against former advertising executive and television personality Mr John Singleton, were dismissed in the Central Court yesterday.
Mr Brown, SM, found that insufficient evidence was offered by police to establish a case.
Mr Singleton, 38, of Darling Point, pleaded not guilty to assaulting Constable Bryan Holborow, of the licensed dealers squad, assaulting him in the execution of his duty, and assaulting Constable Lancelot David Hines, of the licensed dealers squad, in the execution of his duty.
The charges arose from an incident at Kings Cross on March 1.
SYDNEY, Wednesday. — A man charged with illegally possessing a car was charged also with offering a bribe to a detective, Blacktown Court was told today.
Before the court was Mr Albert Jeffrey Woods, 23, of Doonside. He is charged with the bribe offence and illegally possessing a GTR Holden Torana.
Also before the court was Mr Woods’ brother, James, 24, of the same address, who was charged with illegally possessing car grills. Both men are labourers.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Kingsley Weller told the court that “far more serious charges” would be made against the brothers.
The alleged offences took place at Doonside yesterday, Sergeant Weller told Mr A. J. McKeowen, SM.
The alleged bribe had been made to Detective L. D. Hines of Blacktown Police.
Pleas were not taken.
Sergeant Weller said additional investigations were being carried out “in relation to several car matters”.
Both were allowed $300 bail and were remanded to appear at the same court on September 6.

Dr “Tony” Raymond has just passed away after a battle with Cancer
Dr Raymond was appointed as the first civilian director of the Forensic Services Group in the late 90s and although “Director” held the equivalent rank of Assistant Commissioner In charge of over 1000 police and civilians.
Tony was responsible for pioneering new forensic techniques in NSW such as Luminol and other chemical techniques seen on shows such as CSI.
He introduced civilians into SOCO positions ( Scene of Crime Officers ) and robotics into DNA laboratories in NSW and introduced Nationally accredited tertiary training for Forensic Crime Scene Examiners.
Tony was also a world recognised Blood Splash Expert and gave evidence in many forums including judicial reviews.
Tony also became NSW police first chief scientist.
Tony’s association in various roles went for around 20 years.
We thank you for your vision, foresight and aid in bringing many, many criminals to justice.

When I was attached to 7 Division general duties in the 1960s, I bumped into Mick Trevor fairly regularly working at various events eg. Randwick Races, SCG rugby league. Mick was a sergeant in those days and was a gentleman.
I Knew Mick Trevor well. He was my boss at No.15 division and was my boss at 3 man station Malabar substation of 15 Div.
Mick was a shy bloke with subtle humour. Was in the Police choir at some stage. He was also a good wrestler as was Stan Franklin and Jim Armstrong. Last saw and spoke with Mick was when he was an Inspector at Central Police Stn. No.1 Div. Late 70s. Was a good man. Rest in Peace.

Suicide Verdict Follows Shooting Fatality
Coroner Inquires Into Death of Clement Boon
After conducting an inquest at the Court House yesterday into the death of Clement Alexander Boon, the Corner ( Mr. W. H. Hall ) found that the deceased died from injuries wilfully infected by himself with a .22 calibre rifle on April 15.
Boon was found lying in the back yard of his aunt’s home at 517 Chapple Street on that day. There was a bullet wound in his right temple and a .22 calibre repeating rifle was lying beside him. At the time of the accident there was no one but deceased present on the premises.
From evidence stated yesterday, deceased, appeared to be in excellent health and spirits prior to his death. He was described by several witnesses as “happy-go lucky”, although he was never known to have confided in anyone.
Dr. Keith J. Wilson, medical practitioner, told the coroner, that when he answered a call to 517 Chapple Street about noon on April 15, he found the deceased lying on the ground outside the back door of the premises.
Deceased was then alive, although unconscious. He was conveyed to Hospital, where he was examined by Dr. R. T. Bull.
Dr. R.T. Bull said yesterday that when he examined deceased he found he had a circular wound above the right temple region of the scalp. The wound was bleeding profusely and deceased’s breathing was stertorous. He died at 2.30 pm. that day.
The Acting Government Medical Officer. Dr. T. L. Dunn said that he conducted a post mortem on the body of deceased 9 am on April 16. He found that there was a small punctured wound in the scalp about quarter of an inch in diameter. There was no sign of powder marking on the skin nor singeing of the hair, although there was blacking within the wound. Internally the skull was fractured round the cranium. There was a small piece of lead lying under the scalp. Between the two holes in the skull there was a tunnel 2 inches wide, which traversed the brain, causing it to become very confused.
Explaining why there were no powder marks or blencing. Dr. Dunn said the barrel of the gun must have been held so firmly to the scalp that the gases and powder of the bullet followed the bullet into the cranial cavity. The passage of the bullet and inter-cranial pressure that brought about by the expanding gases caused the extensive brain damage and haemorrhage which were the cause of death, Dr. Dunn said.
The rifle which was found beside the deceased was identified yesterday by Donald. J. Tyson,. of 517 Chapple Street. Tyson said he had occupied the same room as deceased for the past six years. The rifles, his property, was unloaded when he put it between the wardrobe and the door of the room after using it on March 29.
Mervyn L. Sanderson, storeman, of 571 Chapple Lane, said that he had a few drinks with deceased and some other men at the Victoria Hotel about 5 p.m. on April 14. He noticed deceased was rubbing his eyes, which appeared to be watery. Witness said, “What’s the matter, are you short of money?” Deceased said, “No, I’ve got plenty of dough. I’m getting as bad as a baby, crying when I’ve had a few drinks.” Deceased mentioned that he was going to be married soon and had a “real nice girl.” witness said.
Clara Bertha Gilby, ,shop assistant, of 555 Chapple Street, said she had known deceased for a period of 14 years. She became engaged to him in July of last year. She said deceased had never at any time intimated to her he was about to take his own life.
Deceased’s aunt, Mrs Jean S. Tyson of 517 Chapple Street, said he had resided with her for the last six years. About noon on the morning of the fatality she, went across the road to a shop.
Before she went she told deceased to look after the dog and not let her follow her. She was away about 10 minutes when the dog entered the shop. When she returned witness went round to the back of the house; she called the deceased and received no answer. She walked further into the yard and found him on the ground. Witness said, “Whatever happened. Clem,” but deceased only groaned in reply.
Constable Michael J. Trevor told the coroner that from his investigations he had learnt that deceased was of a happy disposition, and a moderate drinker. He was about to be married and was waiting to obtain a home. Deceased had been a member of the Army in the last war, but had never been overseas.
Keith James Balman, who had identified the body to the coroner, said he had known deceased for 28 years.
In his summary, Mr. Hall said he could find no direct evidence as to how deceased met his death, but guided by the evidence of Dr. Dunn’s post mortem, he concluded that deceased died from haemorrhage and brain injuries wilfully inflicted by himself with a .22 calibre repeating rifle at 517 Chapple Street on April 15.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Amie Clark (Cessnock, New South Wales), who passed away on August 14, 2020, leaving to mourn family and friends.

It breaks my heart to inform everybody here that Aims passed last night (August 14th) at about 8.30pm.
She really deteriorated in the last week or so and we were forced to sedate her a couple of days ago. She was given hours then but still fought and held on for another 2 days. Which to everybody who knows her or has followed her journey, it’s no surprise.
Our daughter Miela and myself were beside her holding her hand, kissing her and telling her we love her with all our hearts right up to her last little breath.
I will do another post about her at a later date and will also put up a post of her funeral details for those attending or wanting to view the stream.

Much loved mother and mother-in-law of David & Sue Pedersen and Graeme (dec’d). Stepmother of Greg & Paula Day. Loving nan of all her grandchildren. Aged 89 years. Margaret will be sadly missed by all her extended family and friends.

William David HANNA was the third child born to David HANNA and Susan Anna SMITH. He was born on the 10th March 1884 at Woorooma Station, Moulamein NSW.
After his Boer War service in 1902, the next recorded record of his life was on 12 July 1903 when he reported the death of his brother, John Alfred Hanna at the Jerilderie Hotel NSW Australia.
As a returned soldier he was offered a career in the NSW Police Force, and was appointed as an Ordinary Constable on the 1 April 1906, (information obtained from the NSW Police Gazette dated 11 July 1906).
His service number was 8363 and he was posted to the far North Coast country towns of Murwillumbah and Mullumbimby. A few years later he was posted to Hillston, in far western NSW.
Members of the HANNA family knew him by the nickname of “Barlow”.
On the 31st March 1908 he married Jessie TAMLYN in the Mount Hope district of NSW.
William and Jessie had three children. William David Gregory was born in Condobolin during 1909. The second child born was Grace May Dorothy who was born on 16 December 1911 at Hay NSW. The third child Jessie Margaret was born at Urana NSW on the 14th June, 1913.
When John Alfred Carroll HORGAN moved from Jerilderie NSW in the late 1920’s, to take up a job the GPO in Sydney, he boarded with his uncle, William David HANNA, who was a Crown Sergeant by this time, in the NSW police force. He resided at 71 Rosebery Avenue, Rosebery NSW where it was common for relatives to arrive at his home and stay for whatever time they liked.
A family source advised that Uncle Barlow’s relatives and friends would visit on a Saturday and drink beer in the garage.
When transferred to Sydney NSW William David held postings at Darlinghurst, Redfern, Paddington, Randwick and Botany Police Stations as a Crown Sergeant.
Molly HORGAN recalls that when she was completing her nursing certificate during the 1940’s at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Darlinghurst, she would often receive a visit from Crown Sergeant William HANNA, just to see if she was alright and making sure she had everything she needed.
Molly also knew him as Barlow and stated he was a wonderful caring man.
Crown Sergeant William HANNA was professionally acquainted with Sydney’s major underworld figures of the day. He was also a member of the Orange Lodge and Masonic Lodge.
He was sent to the Hunter Valley Region on several occasions for Bush Fire control and Law and Order at times of the infamous Coal Miners Strikes during the 1930’s.
On one occasion he was severely beaten in a brawl and finished up in Hospital. His family could not get near him because of the number of Chinese residents holding a vigil around his bed side. He had an affiliation with the Chinese population and believed they were good citizens.
William David HANNA owned three houses in Sydney; I have located five addresses that he lived at in Sydney: one a flatette above the Lynx Service Station on the corner of Gardeners Road and Tunstall Ave, Kensington, another residence at 155 Botany Road, Botany, “Akaroa” Mount Street, Randwick,
The Sands Directory of 1917 and 1918 recorded his address as Mort Street, Randwick and his final residence at 71 Rosebery Ave, Rosebery.
My sister Valerie recalls that she and our mother visited Uncle Barlow in Sydney. As children my sisters would be threatened with “uncle Barlow”when they misbehaved.
William David HANNA died aged 70 on the 10 December 1953 at his Rosebery NSW residence.
His death certificate states he was a widower, married at the age of 25 to Jessie TAMLYN at Mount Hope NSW. He died of a carcinoma of the stomach, which he suffered with for two years and was under the care of a Doctor John C. RADFORD.
He was cremated on the 11th December 1953 at the Eastern Suburbs Crematorium. The undertaker was T. Moncrief, Reverend J.A Ross, Church of England Minister conducted the service and C. Higgins was a witness to the cremation.
His ashes were taken to Urana NSW and buried with his wife Jessie TAMLYN. His death certificate gives his daughter Jessie HANNA as the informant of his death and also gave 71 Rosebery Avenue, Rosebery as her address.

Trooper William David HANNA – 22 – 3rd NSW Imperial Bushmen- Boer War 1902
In 1902 William David HANNA then aged 18 enlisted in the Colonial Army to fight against the Boers in South Africa.
William HANNA like so many other young men lied about his age stating he was 20 years old to get into the colonial army. He gave his occupation as “station hand” and was a Trooper in the 3 NSW Imperial Bushmen with the service number of 22.
This contingent of soldiers, arrived in South Africa and when peace was declared, immediately returned to Australia. He was awarded the Queens South Africa Medal, with clasps serving at Belmont, Transvaal, Rhodesia and South Africa, 1902.
Records of The 3rd New South Wales Imperial Bushmen gave the following information:”
In January 1902 a new squadron for the Regiment was formed in Cape Town from Australians already in the country, as was another squadron in February. This brought the strength of the regiment to 500.
About 1,000 men in total are thought to have served in the unit, although it had no more than 600 at any time.
During May 1902 some of the men whose time had expired returned to Australia in the transport Ansonia but many more, and all the officers, volunteered for further service.
200 Victorian Riverina Bushmen, raised by J. S. HORSFALL, reinforced those who stayed. (I believe that his future brother-in-law, John Joseph HORGAN were part of this 200 being from the Riverina Area).
William’s older brother John Alfred HANNA was also serving in South Africa at the time with the 3rd Battalion Australian Commonwealth Horse (NSW)
The regiment spent the remainder of its time serving with William’s column in west Transvaal, until peace was declared in June 1902.
On 12 July 1902 the regiment sailed from Durban, Natal, for Australia, on board the transport Drayton Grange arriving in Sydney on 11 August”

David worked tirelessly to improve relationships between Police and the Aboriginal people and he was extremely proud that his father was a Black Tracker in the Walgett area in the 1940s.
