One man has died and another is fighting for life after a motorcycle accident at Bylong
One man has been killed and another is fighting for life after a motorcycle crash at Bylong.
Police say just after midday yesterday a 65-year-old man was riding a motorcycle north along the Bylong Valley Way when he collided with another motorcyclist travelling in the opposite direction.
Tragically the 65-year-old died at the scene.
The 54-year-old male rider of the other bike suffered internal injuries and was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
Officers from Orana Mid Western Police District attended the scene and commenced an investigation.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner and investigations are continuing.
Yesterday, Peter was tragically killed in a two motorcycle collision near RYLSTONE, NSW whilst returning from ‘The Annual WALL 2 WALL ride’.
A Dr Keith BRENNAN was on the scene with Peter receiving Emergency care by the subject doctor and fellow members of “The Newy Crew” who tried desperately to bring him home. Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful with Peter passing away in the care of his mates…

A motorcyclist has died in a crash in Bylong in the state’s Western Region today.
About 12.10pm (Monday 16 September 2019), a 65-year-old man was riding a motorcycle north on Bylong Valley Way when he collided with another motorcyclist travelling in the opposite direction.
The 65-year-old man died at the scene; the 54-year-old male rider of the other motorbike suffered internal injuries and was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

They say things come in threes. I’m not sure who ‘they’ are, but I hope they’re right! Yesterday we lost a dear dear family friend Hugh Hargreave. One of Steve’s best mates, a 2nd Dad to Jayden and one of the kindest, loving, most sincere and authentic people we have ever known. We are all better people for having known him. Our loss, is Heaven’s gain.
This is our third close death in 5 months. It feels like death is surrounding us atm. But, If there is one thing I have learned these past months , it is that death isn’t the end – but really just a doorway.
Earth isn’t our ‘forever home ‘ And Hugh was so looking forward to finally ‘really’ going home to be with Jesus and those he loved, including our Cody. (which he bragged about seeing him before Steve did❤️)
We often say Rest In Peace and for Hugh he carried that peace right to the very end of his life here on earth because he knew this wasn’t the end and he knew where he was going !

REMEMBERING A WORKMATE AND FRIEND HUGHIE HARGREAVE
Deb, David, Mark, Nathan, Sam and Thomas. Most of the police names mentioned below met Hugh back in the early 1970s at Cabramatta. Cabramatta at that time was a small police station being about 3mtr by 3mtr square. A new station was built which was about 3 – 4 times the size of the original Call Box. They later moved into the house, on the same block of land, which was originally a police residence.
Being a small police patrol, the police there became very close and a close personal bond was formed. This bond has continued from the 1970s until the present time. We all went along our individual career paths, but, most of us continued to keep in touch with each other. In July 2017, Hugh, Deb and a few of the original guys from Cabramatta flew to Alice Springs to see another one of it’s crew, Bill Espie, inducted into the Hartley Street School Museum, such is the closeness of those original Cabramatta guys.
Deb, David, Mark, Nathan, Sam and Thomas, your husband/dad was a great person to work and socialise with. He was a dedicated police officer, who carried out his duties in an honourable, professional manner. It was a privilege to not only know Hughie, it was an honour to be able to call him a good mate

Yesterday I received a telephone call from a work mate (Peter Croucher) whom I last worked with 37 years ago. It was like we had seen each other yesterday.
I was privileged to have worked at Cabramatta when there were only 8 police. Two were aboriginal.
No one thought of anything other than respect for each other. It was an extremely busy and happy station.
I remember my first two weeks being like a baptism with fire. I attended and investigated 3 separate deaths and a fire that went to a hearing at the Coroners Court. At the end of the two weeks the boss came up to me and shook my hand and welcomed me to the station.
It was a privileged to work at this station for 7 years with an amazing group of police and two amazing commanders. They earn your respect and were the most supportive bosses I ever worked for. Trust is earned and does not come with the rank.
Peter has been researching and has now had a memorial approved for Bill Espie, who was the first aboriginal police officer to reach commissioned rank in NSW. This will be a proud moment when it is unveiled in Alice Springs where Bill was born. I am looking forward to catching up with some of the guys from the station.
It is the dedicated guys I have worked with over many years that makes my time in service such a great experience for which I am thankful. These guys at Cabramatta were amazing. We had each other’s back and were busy all the time. What an amazing time.

Denis collapsed from a Cerebral Haemorrhage, at home, whilst mowing his lawn.
25 October 1989 Moorebank Police Patrol.
It commenced with the appointment of an Inspector and 18 Police, transferred from the Liverpool Patrol.
Originally, Moorebank Patrol had no established station (building) and the Department attempted (unsuccessfully) to operate it from Liverpool Police Station. As this was proving unsuccessful, they leased 29 and 31 Derna Road, Holsworthy. Here the NSW Police opened the Moorebank Police Station, covering the suburbs of – Moorebank, Holsworthy, Hammondville, Sandy Point, Voyager Point, Chipping Norton, and the Army Camp, which were previously under Liverpool Police.
Its first Commander was Inspector Fred Brame, the Patrol Tactician Senior Sergeant Leslie Wales, with Christine Touchard, the Personal Assistant.
Insp Brame, upon promotion moved on. He was replaced by Detective Acting Inspector R. Myers, until he was promoted and moved on.
Detective Acting Inspector Allan Tayler then relieved in this position for a short period.
Acting Inspector Denis Chalker then relieved in the position for about 6 months, while the position was advertised.
Denis Chalker was then appointed to the rank of Inspector (7/1994) and appointed Commander of the Moorebank Patrol.
Upon the promotion and transfer of Leslie Wales, in 4/1994, Detective Senior Sergeant John Stanioch was appointed Patrol Tactician.
Stanioch was promoted to Inspector in March, 1995, which resulted in his transfer to the Macarthur District Office as the Staff Officer – Operations and Intelligence.
Some of the staff attached to Moorebank were Mark Pulford; Nick Bingham; Michael Kennedy; Jason Hyatt; Paul Carlton; Peter Walsh; Graham Rea; Mark Deller; Brian Hughes; Terry Cullen; Gary Heskett; Annette Wheatley; Neville Ticehurst; Christina O’Hagan; Alan McPherson; Rod Hay; Pat Paroz; Shane Green; Rob Gleeson; Deanne Abbott; Matt Newton; Akos Lukas; Michael Masterson; David Gray; Brian Bain; Fiona Jackson; and Maureen Kennedy was the senior Public Servant, assisted by Wendy Aitchison.
Then in 1995, the “I” District Commander (later renamed Macarthur District) Chief Superintendent Phil Hopkins recalled the Detectives back to Liverpool Police Station and within the next 18 months, the Moorebank Police Station was closed and all staff returned to Liverpool and other locations.
Rental Lease was $15,600 per annum on the two buildings that police occupied.

September 1998:
Liverpool Police Inspector Denis. W. Chalker retires from the New South Wales Police Force, while attached to Liverpool, after 26 years of service.
He was sworn-in in June, 1972. During his career he worked at Liverpool on three different periods. The first from July, 1973 to July, 1974, on General Duties, then August 1986 to September, 1990 in the Licensing Section.
During this period Inspector Chalker was involved in the high
profile case of the 10 day sequestration of Paul Galea’s Egg Farm at Prestons, which drew national media attention as the court case continued for many years. Then he returned to Liverpool as a Duty Officer from July, 1997 to September, 1998.
Upon retirement, he formed a ‘Handyman’ business and was involved in retail.

Brian was very active on YouTube presenting many videos on model aero engines and other model engineering, authored columns on these subject in the Australian Modelling Magazines, the English Aeromodeller as well as others. He was known world-wide for his knowledge and experience.

Paul was stationed at Central Police Station ( No. 1 Division ) where, on 24 December 1980 he was assisting to evacuate customers from the Woolworths Town Hall Store, when he walked back in for a final check and a bomb exploded behind a perfume counter adjacent to where he was standing.
He left the force not all that long afterwards.
A check of a Seniority list prior to this event will reveal his registered number. I am not 100%, but it could be in the vicinity of 17065.

Extortion demand expected by police
SYDNEY: Detectives said yesterday they expected an extortion demand of about $1 million within the next week after the explosion which ripped through a Woolworths store in central Sydney on Christmas Eve.
Detective-Sergeant John Anderson, who takes over Monday as head of the task force investigating the bombing, told a news conference that police had substantial leads in the case but “next week will tell one way or the other”.
Detectives believed they had discovered the source of the gelignite used in the bomb, which went off about 10 minutes after the store received a warning telephone call.
Two sticks of gelignite were used. It was also thought that the bomber was not an explosives expert.
They were also convinced that the bomber was the man who rang a Woolworths’ store at Orange, and threatened that unless $1 million was paid, a store at either Orange or in the city would be blown up.
They were working on several leads from the phone call and the warning call to the Town Hall store.
Police visited the homes of the 80 staff who were working on the ground floor of the Town Hall store at about 3.30 on Wednesday before the bomb exploded.
The staff were shown Identikit pictures of two men – one of whom was seen loitering in the basement of the store for two hours on Christmas Eve.
The second man delivered a letter to Woolworths’ head office above the Town Hall store in late October which threatened that contaminated food would be placed on Woolworths’ shelves.
In another development yesterday, two young television cameramen said they were approached by a man nearly four hours before the Christmas Eve blast. The man had said there would be a bombing in a Woolworths store.
The ATN-7 crew, assistant cameraman Mr John Scott, 20, and his offsider, Mr Graham Storer, 16, were filming buskers outside the Hilton Hotel in George Street, a short distance from the Woolworths store, about 11am when the man spoke to them.
“He walked up and said, ‘ I don’t know what you are doing here, the news is going to be at Woolworths later ‘ “, Mr Storer said.
When they asked the man what he meant, he replied, “There will be a bomb go off and a threat made, The police will know about it”.
The man had matched the picture of a suspect issued by police [and which was published in The Canberra Times yesterday].
Sergeant Anderson said the police were “overwhelmed at the magnitude” of a $250,000 reward offered by Woolworths for information on the bombing.
The Town Hall store bombing followed explosions earlier in the month at Woolworths stores in Wollongong ( Warilla ) and Maitland which caused damage estimated at $320,000.
Sergeant Anderson said security had been stepped up at Woolworths outlets, most of which would be open for business today.
But the Town Hall store would not reopen until Monday in order for repairs and a clean-up to take place.
A special command post has been set up at the old CIB headquarters in Surry Hills to deal with the case.
The same room was used as an investigation headquarters during the Hilton Hotel bombing investigation in 1978 and the investigation into the “Mr Brown” extortion case against Qantas a few years earlier.
Woolworths management said yesterday they had employed outside security men to guard their 256 retail outlets around the State.
Woolworths management will meet union officials on Monday to discuss the safety of employees.
SYDNEY: Convicted Woolworths bomber, Mr Larry Burton Danielson, 50, entertainer, of Huskisson, was sentenced to a total of 20 years’ jail yesterday for his part in what the trial judge described as a “monstrous action.”
Among the four jail terms imposed on Mr Danielson was one of 10 years for his part in the bombing of the toy department of Woolworths Town Hall, Sydney, store on Christmas Eve, 1980.
Before passing sentence, Judge Muir told Mr Danielson: “To explode a bomb in a large retail store, in the toy department, during business hours on Christmas Eve with 10 minutes warning is just so unacceptable an act in this community that I believe that all thinking persons in society would regard this as a monstrous action.”
Judge Muir then sentenced Mr Danielson to 10 years’ imprisonment and to a further five years for each of the bombings at Maitland and at Warilla in December, 1980.
All of these jail terms were ordered to be cumulative, resulting in a sentence totalling 20 years, dating from January 29, last year, the date of Mr Danielson’s arrest.
Judge Muir also sentenced Mr Danielson to seven years’ imprisonment on the charge of having caused a letter to be received by Woolworths demanding money with men aces. This sentence is to be served concurrently with the other three.
Judge Muir set a nonparole period of nine years. Mr Danielson was found guilty on Tuesday, following a five-week trial at the District Criminal Court, Darlinghurst.
Mr Gregory Norman McHardie was also found guilty in his absence of the same charges.
SYDNEY: Convicted Woolworths bombers, Mr Gregory Norman McHardie, 30, and Mr Larry Burton Danielson, 50, lodged appeals yesterday on all grounds against their 20-year jail sentences.
Both were found guilty of demanding with menaces $1 million in gold, money and diamonds from Woolworths in December, 1980.
They also were found guilty of placing explosive devices in three Woolworths stores in December, 1980.
When their appeals were mentioned in the Court of Criminal Appeal yesterday they were stood over for further mention next Monday.
