Fin, almost 7, worked as a General Purpose Dog from June 2011 with his handler S/C Curtin before passing away in his sleep Tuesday morning. They were a formidable team working tirelessly to keep the community safe.
Rest in Peace FIN, you will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by S/C Curtin and his family and all of us at the Dog Unit.

FUNERAL OF INSPECTOR MUIR.
The late Inspector A J Muir who was to have taken up duty at Regent Street Police Station but who was drowned at Brisbane Waters near Woy Woy on Sunday while fishing, was given a police funeral yesterday.
After a service at St Stephens Church Macquarie Street which was attended by the Commissioner of Police, Mr W. J. McKay, and most of the police officers stationed in Sydney, the cortege moved to the Eastern Suburbs Crematorium.
Headed by the police band, mounted police and the police motor cycle squad about 80 members of all ranks marched with the cortege from the church to Stanley Street.
Many residents of Katoomba, where the late Inspector Muir was for many years in charge of the police station came to Sydney to attend the funeral.

MANY AT FUNERAL OF INSPECTOR

Policemen from many country centres attended the funeral today of the late Inspector Alexander Muir, who was drowned at Gosford last Sunday.
The cortege, headed by a police band, passed in dignified procession through the city streets, and was followed by many civilians anxious to pay their respects to a well-known police identity.
The Commissioner of Police (Mr. McKay) and the assistant Metropolitan Superintendent (Mr. Collings) were members of the funeral cortege.
CHURCH SERVICE
The Rev. A. J. Parker, formerly of Lismore, and a lifelong friend of the deceased, who officiated at the church service at St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church, paid a high tribute to the qualities and character of the late Inspector Muir.
“He was a man who was always willing to give a helping hand to those in need,” declared the Rev. Parker.
Inspector Muir was a church elder at Lismore for a considerable time.
The remains were cremated at the Eastern Suburbs Crematorium, and interred at Rookwood cemetery.
The chief mourners were his widow, Mrs. Madge Muir, son, Alister, and daughters, Mrs. Ruth Campbell and Misses Jean and Biddie Muir, daughters.

INSPECTOR MUIR DROWNED
Police Inspector Muir, who had only left Wagga on Friday last, was drowned, and two companions, Archibald C. Fowler, of Katoomba, and Leslie Roy Whatley, of Woy Woy, were rescued after a sixteen foot launch had overturned on the bar at the entrance to Brisbane Water early on Sunday night.
The party had been on a fishing excursion and rough weather caused the launch to capsize. The men clung to the overturned launch, but Inspector Muir was washed upwards of 100 yards away by a strong current.
Inspector Muir, who was on two months’ leave, was staying at Ettalong before beginning duty in Sydney. He had been transferred from Wagga, where be bad been a very popular officer.
Inspector Muir, of Regent-street Station, was drowned in Brisbane Water when a 16ft launch capsized in the heavy surf on Sunday. Muir was spending a holiday at Woy Woy, and, with two other men, Leslie Whaley and A. Fowler, spent the day fishing.
They were returning to Woy Woy and while crossing the sand bar were caught in a heavy swell. The surf broke over the boat and while the men were bailing out a wave overturned the boat. Whaley and Fowler clung to the upturned boat, but Muir decided to try to swim ashore, using the pine flooring board to assist him, but an hour later the plight of Whaley and Fowler was noticed and a ferry picked them up.
Muir was found 100 yards from the overturned launch unconscious. Attempts to restore animation were unsuccessful.

Police Inspector SYDNEY, Monday
Police Inspector Muir was drowned at Woy Woy during the week end. He was spending a short holiday in that neighborhood before taking up an important position at Regent Street Station, Sydney.
Deceased formerly had control of Katoomba, Lismore and Wagga districts. He left Wagga last week for his new position in Sydney.

The service for Mr Mair was held at the Bowden Family Funeral Chapel, and a cremation was held afterwards. At this time no decision has been made about memorialisation.

Ajax BoltThere was a Robert W White, born, 9/10/1940, registered no 12534, member of class 110, sworn in at Redfern on 3/4/1967. He joined the Police band very early in his career and was a trumpet player, he apparently worked in the corrective services band at some time. Could be the same person, hope this helps in some way.
Cameron Bell Yes that’s him. He played the cornet amongst others. He also played in the Police Bands Dance Band where only a select few top musicians would play. He was an excellent musician and I always remember the jokes he used to tell.
Cameron BellJust trying to remember the year, but Mike Butcher took over conducting the band in 1972 and it was just after that the band went full time which would have been 1974/75.
Before that Whitey was stationed at Petersham where I think he was when he joined. He did three periods a week teaching music at a PCYC. Whitey was at Leichhardt.
He was still with the Police band when he died of bowel cancer.
He was a funny bugger, he turned 50 and seemed to give it up. Always saying “not bad for an old bugger”. The word was if he had had periodical check ups he would still be alive today.
So to sum up he was only stationed at Petersham police station then full time band at the Police Barracks at Redfern.

DEATH OF EX TAREE POLICE OFFICER
Former Police Superintendent L. Alford, who died on Saturday at his home in Kingsford after a long illness, was at one time Mounted Constable in Taree. Superintendent Alford was a prominent detective for many years. Before his retirement he was officer-in-charge of the Goulburn police district. A funeral service will be held at the Holy Trinity Church, Kingsford, to-day.

DEATH OF EX-POLICE SUPT. ALFORD
William Lindsay Creswell Alford, 57, of Kingsford, who suffered a fatal collapse today, was the third ex-superintendent of police to die this week.
The others were Arthur Leary, 79, of Campbelltown, and William Chas Watkins, 63, of Bellevue Hill.
Mr. Alford had attended the funeral of Superintendent Watkins yesterday and went to his son’s home at Warrimoo, where he became ill.
He was being taken to Prince Henry Hospital, Sydney and died in the ambulance.
Mr. Alford was an inspector at North Sydneyand Phillip St. before his appointment as Superintendent at Parkes. He retired because of ill-health.

WON POLICE MEDAL
A distinguished police officer who was first stationed at Taree has been awarded the King’s Police and Fire Services Medal. He is Superintendent L. Alford,
of Kingsford. The medal is issued for gallantry and for distinguished services. Supt. Alford is a regular visitor to Taree. He is also a keen bowler.
Visitors to Forster during the week were Messrs. W. Matthews, J. Job, J. Townsend and W. Parker, well known professional and commercial men of Parkes. They were on a trip north to follow the sun.
All are friends of Police Superintendent Len Alford, at one time a police officer at Taree, who is a great advocate for Forster as a holiday resort amongst his friends in the Western part of the State.
Sergeant and Mrs. Blunden were entertained by a large gathering of their friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. M. Yarad on Thursday night. An enjoyable musical programme was provided and at the conclusion of an excellent supper the chairman (Mr E. D. Graham) proposed the toast of Sergeant and Mrs. Blunden. He referred to the efficient manner that Sergeant Blunden had administered the Taree police district over the past three years. His remarks were supported by Mr W. P. Chapman, Mr. Hamilton Knight (Conciliation Commissioner), Superintendent L. Alford, Messrs. J. J. Northam, V. Hough (Clerk of Petty Sessions at Taree), E. McCartney, Mr. Simmons (Wingham), and Sergeant Fallon. Mr. Yarad, on behalf of the Lebanese ladies of Taree, presented Mrs. Blunden with a cut glass decanter and 12 goblets. After the joint toast had been enthusiastically honoured Sergeant Blunden and Mrs. Blunden expressed their appreciation of the enjoyable function held in their honor, the good wishes that had been extended to them and the acceptable gift.
Superintendent Alford, in proposing the toast of the host and hostess, paid a tribute to Mr. and Mrs. Yarad for having arranged such a really enjoyable function to farewell Sergeant and Mrs. Blunden.
Mr. Hamilton Knight moved a vote of appreciation to the chairman, and this concluded a happy evening.

Police Superintendent L. Alford, at Parkes, accompanied by Mrs. Alford and their grandchild, are on a visit to the Manning as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Northam, of Taree.
It is 30 years all but two months since Supt. Alford came to Taree as a trooper.
His many friends were pleased to renew his acquaintance. At Taree bowling green on Saturday, the president (Mr. R. S. Butterworth) welcomed the visitor, who suitably responded, expressing his pleasure at being able to re-visit the Manning.

Police Change
Police Superintendent H. C. Randall, who has been stationed in Parkes in charge of the Western police district since December, has received notice of his transfer to Goulburn. Supt. Randall, who expects to leave Parkes within two or three weeks, will be in charge of the Southern administrative district, the headquarters of which are at Goulburn.
He will be replaced in Parkes by Superintendent Alford, of Sydney.

OBITUARY
WALLACE JONATHAN NASH.
The death occurred at Stratford after many months of ill-health of ex-Constable First-Class Wallace Jonathan Nash. After spending two months in hospital in Sydney he was subsequently discharged from the Police Force and last June came with his wife and son to live with his mother-in-law, Mrs. John Wand, at Stratford.
His health deteriorated over the months and his death at the home of Mrs. Wand was not altogether unexpected.
The late Mr. Nash was well-known and respected in the Gloucester district where he was born and reared. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Nash, he was born 46 years ago at Gloucester River and spent his boyhood and youth at Gloucester River and Bowman.
He joined the N.S.W. Police Force as a young man and up to the time of his discharge had had 20 years and nine months service. He was stationed during that time around the city and was for many years at No. 4 Station in the city. He was last stationed at Chatswood.
In 1928 in Sydney he married Miss Emma Wand, a daughter of the late Mr. John Wand and Mrs. Wand, of Stratford.
He is survived by his wife and one son John. Surviving brothers and sisters are: Charles, Ernest, Sidney, Bert., Mrs. B. Bridge (Upper Lansdowne), Mrs. P. Bridge ( Mount .George), Mrs. C. Boorer. (Mount George) and Mrs. F. Hancock ( Mitchell’s Island). One brother, George, predeceased him 17 years ago.
To the family and relatives we extend our sincere sympathy.
The funeral took place in the Church of England portion of the Gloucester cemetery, the Rev. D. R. May officiating. — ‘Advocate.’

OBITUARY. CONSTABLE E. H. ALLARD.
On Thursday morning last the sad intelligence was received on the Wallamba that First-class Constable Edward Harold Allard, aged 40 years, had succumbed to that dire malady, typhoid fever, in the Maitland Hospital, where he had been a patient for a fortnight.
Deceased was the second son of Mr. H. F. Allard, of Failford, and joined the force about thirteen years ago, having been stationed for many years at Raymond Terrace and latterly at the West Maitland Court House.
The funeral took place at West Maitland, the remains being interred in the C. of E. portion of the Campbell’s Hill cemetery, when a police funeral was tendered to the departed, thirty-one fellow officers being in procession and four of them conveying the bier to its last resting place. Revs. Woodhouse and Kitley officiated conjointly at the graveside ceremonial and the Oddfellows’ burial service was also read by a fellow member, as deceased was a member of the M.U.I.O.O.F.
The chief mourners were the wife and children of deceased and Mesdames Mead, Codey and Miss Annie Allard (sisters), and Messrs Ernest, Gordon and Morton (brothers) and Messrs R. Mead and A. J. Johnson (brothers-in-law), all of whom had arrived prior to death.
The late Constable Allard was a native of Failford and leaves in sad bereavement his wife and three children – Florence Annie (16), Mona (14), and Reginald (13), an aged father, and brothers and sisters.
A large concourse of friends paid the last sad rites, and sympathy is extended to the bereaved and sorrowing.

FIRST-CLASS CONSTABLE ALLARD
The death occurred in the Maitland Hospital on Thursday from typhoid fever of First-class Constable Edward Harold Allard, who resided at Telarah. Deceased, who was 40 years of age, joined the police force in June, 1916, when he was appointed to Redfern. After six years’ duty, he was transferred to Raymond Terrace, where he remained for a similar term before being removed to West Maitland, nearly two years ago.
He is survived by his wife, two daughter, Florrie and Mona, and one son, Reginald. When the news was received at the West Maitland Police Station, Inspector ( Robert )Graham stated that, apart from the sympathy felt for the deceased officer’s wife and family, he deeply regretted his passing, as it meant the loss of a good man.

Constable Ernest Wallwork; who has recently taken up duties at Dapto police station, was complimented by the deputy Coroner [Mr. S. R. Musgrave) on Wednesday at the hearing of the inquest concerning the death of Mr David .Mack. The coroner remarked that the Constable had came from a rural area out west, and the excellent manner in which he had secured the necessary evidence and prepared the case was all the more commendable as this was his first experience of a fatal industrial accident.
