Sergeant Darren Jones is a serving member of the NSW Police Force based at Parramatta Local Area Command.

Darren was diagnosed with Stage 3 Bowel Cancer in June 2015 which he successfully treated with Chemotherapy. He was in remission in August of 2016 when Doctors found metastasised cells in Darren’s abdomen. He underwent further Chemotherapy and all was looking good until mid-February 2017, when he received a Stage 4 Liver Cancer diagnosis.

Darren and Trish, also a serving member of the NSW Police Force have twin 11-year olds, a boy and a girl, Ty and Charli. Ever since Darren and Trish had their children, they have dreamt of being able to take their family on a holiday to Disneyland. A goal that now seems more pressing to create special memories for the children, and to give the family some precious time away together.

With the assistance of NSW Police Legacy, Darren’s mates and colleagues are fundraising to support Darren with his medical expenses, and to give the family their dream holiday.

It is with deep sadness that I advise Sergeant Second Class Bruce Earl Magee, Registered No. 12500, Class 110 passed away at 1.13am this morning at Bathurst Base Hospital. His family were with him and requested their thanks to all those that have passed on their thoughts in respect to Bruce.
There will be a private funeral, and there is to be a Memorial Service at a later date, that date will be advised when it is known.

I remember Bruce as a Detective Senior Constable at Fairfield ( 34 Division ) Police Station back around 1977 – 79.

He was a really nice and approachable bloke.

The generosity of ones wisdom, is a statement of kindness, never surpassed in the history of time. When one of patience and understanding, pauses to advise and direct young people, and point them in the right direction, its a true sign of humility and caring. Over the years this man has nurtured the careers of hundreds of young Police Officers, at the Goulburn Police Academy, and on behalf of these Police Officers, serving and retired, we say thank you for your interest, for your patience, and your guidance and your friendship and your knowledge; and for just being the man you are. I’ve been struggling for words all day but I think my little sister Megan put it best so here it is.
We have tried to remember everyone to call before making a post. Dad would hate to think someone found out via facebook. Sorry if we have missed anyone its been a big day.

Today we lost a husband, dad, grandfather, son, brother, nephew and cousin. A man that has meant so much to many and helped many more.

Through all his health battles he always said that god didn’t want you and the devil was worried you would take over. Well something changed today. We like to think your in heaven watching over us and I am sure you will continue to guide us all through life.

RIP DAD forever in our hearts

Ray Gardoll Tony was also stationed at Ivanhoe in the Barrier District back in 1995-97 by memory. I was at Broken Hill then and met Tony a number of times. I got to speak with Tony back in October at the Barrier Awards Ceremony. His father presented him with his NPSM. Sad to hear of his passing, I was a good guy.

David Aspland I would like to share a funny story. I met Tony in 1995 when he was a Senior Constable at Ivanhoe. I remember his standing joke about his name and family connection (Father was then Commissioner Tony Lauer) :”Well Dad and I have both done the same thing in our careers. We have both reached out ceiling rank”. . A very likeable and easy going bloke.

Mick Clarke RIP Tony. Had many great times with Tony when he was in the Plantation Unit. His favourite comment was”There’s one thing in common with me and Dad and that’s we’ve both gone as far as we can in the Job.”

Peter Wallace Had a yarn to him on the Hume one day. Drove a truck called the Commish. Lovely bloke. Had our NSW Police crest on the cover of his log book. RIP mate.

Flash Flanagan was a rough and ready Policeman who worked at Fairfield and Liverpool Police, on General Duties, before his Resignation in February 1982.

Flash was diagnosed with Liver & Kidney cancer one month prior to his passing. The Cancer was aggressive and quick. He was in palliative care when he passed.

Lenny was a real ‘old school’ cop, who never took a backward step from anyone.

After Resigning, he took on a pub in Port Douglas, Qld, for a few years after which he was selling real estate at Mossman, Qld, up to at least two years prior to his death.

He was a colourful guy who loved boxing and was very popular with all the new blokes arriving at # 2 Division ( Regent St ).

Peter CameronGroup Admin Just for the information of some who knew Bruce; he had a very large turnout for his funeral today. A whole bunch of retired and serving people there and even one bloke, Mick Pearce, who flew in from Melbourne. Bruce was given a very fitting service for his 32 yrs in the cops and I must say camaraderie is still alive and well despite what we sometimes think.

Stan was, apparently, a very tall man at 6′ 6″ of 5′ 19″, with plenty of stories to tell and being told about him Love his blue singlet and a rollie cigarette. A legend of a man.
