He, and wife Trish, were the Licensee of the REX ( Royal Exchange Hotel ) at Windsor prior to moving to Lake Macquarie area about 6 months prior to his death.

Rons’ cancer was deemed a HOD from a rescue response incident in Blacktown to a chemical spill.
Trevor Watkins was also a Rescue Operator who attended the same incident and died some time before Ron of the same cancer. Doctors linked the 2 Police to the same chemical spill event.
Trevor, however, is NOT mentioned on the National Police Wall of Remembrance. ( Last checked 25 Aug 2022 )

POLICE AND COURTHOUSE OPENING
GRAND DAY FOR QUEANBEYAN
It will be a gala occasion tomorrow when the Premier of NSW, Mr Wran, officially opens the new police station and courthouse in Queanbeyan.
The two buildings, costing $4 million, took 2½ years to complete.
The opening ceremony will be performed at 4pm in the foyer of the courthouse and about 400 people are expected to attend.
After the ceremony, the guests will move to the Queanbeyan Leagues Club for afternoon tea.
Among the dignitaries who will attend the function with their wives will be the NSW Attorney-General, Mr Walker, the NSW Police Commissioner, Mr Woods, and Deputy Commissioner, Mr Lees, a previous Queanbeyan police inspector, Mr Percy Hale, and the Superintendent in charge of country districts, Mr Alec Birnie.
In the evening, there will be a dinner at which the public will have an opportunity to meet members of the NSW Cabinet which will be in town for a meeting on Tuesday.
Forty policemen, including the policewoman, are now working in the comfort and luxury offered by the new station which is a far cry from the previous surroundings. The NSW Police Commissioner is considering an application to increase the number of general duties and traffic police.
The new station has elaborate safety measures. These include sensitive alarm systems, a closed circuit TV which keeps constant watch on the backyard and an internal public-address system.
The courthouse is another modern building and comprises a district court and a court of petty sessions.
Inspector Jack Gudgeon, the Divisional Inspector of eight sub-stations around Queanbeyan, his wife, Betty, and Sergeant Les Gorman, Officer-in-Charge of the Queanbeyan Police Station.

Due to an accident he had while in the Highway Patrol, he was always on pain killers and for more than ten years he has been using morphine patches, the prolonged use of these medications had a detrimental effect on his health this, coupled with his lifestyle, contributed to his early death.
Bruce had been ill since around August 2015 and had a bleed on the brain and surgery in September 2015.
Unfortunately Tarro had a few setbacks since that time and needed 24/7 care and was placed into the Mayfield Aged Care & Wallsend Nursing Home.

Some work ‘history’ of Tubby from Gunnedah:
His stint on the motorcycles ended in June 1969 in Newcastle, when a VW failed to give way to Bruce when he was dispatched to a bank hold-up (hoax). He spent four months in the Mater Hospital in Newcastle and returned to work full-time the following year in highway patrol cars.
He transferred to Gunnedah in September 1972 as the only Highway Patrol officer in the town, about a year later he transferred to the PCBC to become the assistant constable at the GunnedahPolice & Citizens Boys Club and shortly after he was made the Officer in charge.
He lobbied for a better site for a multi-functional club and plans were drawn up for the new PCYC on the Gunnedah Showground, before the building was finished Bruce was offered a transfer to Newcastle to build another club in the Lake Macquarie area.
In 1979 we returned to Newcastle and Bruce commenced the task of raising funds and planning the new club. This task was achieved with support from local businesses and a very strong committee and the new club was opened by the then Prime Minister the Honorable Bob Hawke AC on 1st October 1983.
Bruce continued to run the club until his retirement due continued complications from the motorcycle accident back in 1969.

An interesting footnote is that Steve was the first handler to bring his own dog into the Squad and successfully passed out with this dog; Rebel was his name, and when Rebel passed on he was going to be interred with Steve. Don’t know if he was but that was the plan.

Served his country faithfully as a decorated police officer for 35 years.
Loving father of Daniel, beloved son of Bob and Noreen MCINTOSH (dec), treasured brother of Karen and Michael (dec), wonderful brother-in-law of Tony, much loved uncle of Anne-Louise, Christopher, Bridget, and Gabrielle.
