Ray loved his work at Nowra and Wollongong but it was unfortunately curtailed after he developed Type 1 Diabetes stemming from a virus infection.

Once Ray resigned from NSWPF around 1981, he became the Publican at the Dapto Hotel for nearly 10 years.  He and his wife, Chris, also owned Granny Mae’s Store in Wollongong.

He enjoyed his football, his bowls at Nowra and was a real practical joker.

Bob was a keen amateur Radio operator, he also has a web site. www.airsearailroad.com where he dealt with anything to do with the forms of transport mentioned in the web site name.

At least one can say that Bob passed away doing what he loved filming the various trains “Indian Pacific” etc to put on his web site and “Youtube”.

Sgt Bob Bell (Burwood days).
Not too many people were of your calibre and were such a great leader and friend to so many. You influenced my career and supported me as my sergeant and as friend. You made us laugh and showed that a Sgt could be human after all. Those shifts watching the flight paths of planes at your desk and you trusting me in a cop car is still spoken of to this day and still makes me laugh. Lost but never forgotten.

Wednesday, 15 June 2016

We always enjoyed Bob’s posts on AirSeaRailRoad.com and his enthusiasm for all mode of transports and amateur radio. Loved discussing many of these subjects with Bob over a cup of tea at Bankstown Airport.

Bob you will be missed, we will never forget your calm way to approach all situations.

THE LATE JIM WALTON – “FIVE MILE JIM”
Written by Phill Bates ( St George Cycling Club ) Friday 25 June 2016…. On a more sombre note, I attended the memorial service of Jim Walton today.

Jim was known as Gentleman Jim, was a police officer for many years and his main post was Mortdale Police Station.

The most notable aspect about Jim is that he was one of the club’s first ever national champions, combined with the Late Barry Thew and our wonderful friend Ron Webb to win the Australian Southcott Cup (teams pursuit) in 1953.

He also finished second to Commonwealth Games champion and future Olympic champion Ian Brown in the 10 mile National Title but won the return bout in 1955, winning the National 5 mile title at Hurstville Oval in 1955.

Jim was one of our early stars – the start of a multitude of many National, Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games champions and I was honoured by his wife Elaine and sons Bruce and Rob to speak at his memorial service at Engadine today.

Born and bred in St George territory, living in Peakhurst before spending the last of his 20 years in Kiama, after having a stroke. Jim was a champion in many ways….
