Upon joining the employ of NSW Police Force, Geoff was described as:
5′ 8.5″ tall, 10 st 7 lb in weight with brown eyes, black hair, dark complexion and single.
His previous employment was a Farm & Station Hand; Storeman, Vineyard worker; Horse Breaker; Athlete, Shop Assistant. His religion was C of E.
On the 12 October 1928 he was 5′ 9.75″ tall and 12 lb 6 st in weight.
On the 9 April 1928 he Married Mary Agnes JOHNSTON at West Wyalong, NSW.
On the 9 November 1928 he went from Mounted duties to Foot Patrol.

SYDNEY. — A 71 year old man was charged by summons in Burwood Court, of Petty Sessions with having needlessly killed a domestic cat.
Dismissing the information Mr. L. E. Stapleton, SM, said, “No doubt this man killed a cat, but I am not satisfied it was done deliberately. “I think it was done accidentally.” The man, William Oswald Fowler, of Shaftesbury Road, Burwood, had pleaded not guilty. ‘ Sergeant Geoffrey Ernest Sheather, of Burwood, said that Fowler told him he had killed a cat. Fowler had said the cat came into his bedroom and he was only trying to catch it and put it over the front fence. BROOM /HANDLE Sergeant Sheather said he asked Fowler why he hit the cat with the handle of a broom. He said Fowler replied: ” I tried to hold it down with the head of the broom but it got away from me and I then changed ends of the broom and hit it with the handle. I made a swing as it was running past and caught it behind the ears and killed it ‘ Mrs. Valma Kathleen Hough, of Russell Street, Strathfield, said she had visited her sister, Joy Ellen Chambers, of Shaftsbury Road, Burwood, and had gone looking for the cat, which had belonged to her sister. Mrs. Hough said she saw Fowler hit he cat eight times. She had later taken the cat’s body out of Fowler’s garbage tin and telephoned the police.

Accidental Death
WOMAN KILLED BY TRAIN WHILE WALKING HOME FROM CHURCH FUNCTION
At the conclusion of the inquiry yesterday into the death of Miss Gladys Viti Monckton, 51, a native of Fiji, and of independent means, who had resided for the past four months at Point Clare, the District Coroner, Mr. C. J. Staples, returned a finding of accidental death.
The Coroner added that no blame was attachable to the driver of the train.
Miss Monckton, while walking along the railway line to Point Clare shortly after 6 p.m. on October 6, was struck by the Inter-city Express and killed instantly, the body being shockingly mutilated.
Dr. J. H. Paul, Government Medical Officer, said that about 6.23 p.m. he went to Point Clare and saw the body of a woman lying on the railway line. The body was badly mangled and the head crushed. Death had been instantaneous, caused through severe head injuries.
Constable Geoffrey Ernest Sheather said that blood stains and pieces of flesh indicated that the body had been dragged about 55 yards by the train. A high wind was blowing, making it almost impossible to hear approaching trains
C. Tudor Pile, public accountant, Gosford, said deceased was a cousin by marriage. He had known her about thirty years, and was constantly in touch with her. The last time he saw deceased was about a week ago, and she appeared to be in good health. He identified the body at the Gosford morgue.
Miss Monckton was returning from a party at the Anglican Church, Gosford, when the tragedy occurred. He knew she made a habit of walking along the line, despite the fact that she had been informed it was against railway regulations.
George Frederick Fox, engine driver, residing at Concord, said he was in charge of the Newcastle Express, which struck Miss Monckton. His train passed through Gosford at 5.58 p.m. and when going under the overhead bridge on the Sydney side, two young men ran across the line in front of the train. This attracted his attention and he saw what appeared to be a woman running along the planking boards. The speed of the train was about 60 miles per hour, and he blew a sharp blast, and applied the brakes. He knew he could not stop, but thought the woman would have got clear. Looking back he saw what appeared to be a dress under the first carriage, and brought the train to a standstill.
The speed of the train at the time of the tragedy was approximately 60 m.p.h., while the permissible speed at the point was 70 m.p.h.

Night duty at Fairfield Police Station is proceeding satisfactorily, said the Officer-In-Charge, Sgt. H. Laycock, on Tuesday.
Extra, staff has now raised the total of police at Fairfield Station to six sergeants, 16 constables and one cadet.

A quick move by Fairfield police, Constables Gazzard and Goodridge, on Monday morning, resulted in two fifteen-year-old Fairfield boys being arrested and later charged with breaking and entering homes in Bland Street, Riverview Road, Laurel Street, Wilga Street and Ulverstone Street.

SYDNEY: The arrest of a former Japanese criminal-society member on Queensland’s Gold Coast has focused attention on the movement of Asian Mafia-style gangs into Australia, particularly NSW.
Australian Federal Police and Immigration Department officers arrested 47 year-old Suzuki Sueharu in a raid on a Currumbin Waters flat yesterday. He had failed to reveal his criminal history when applying for a visa.
An AFP spokesman said yesterday that Sueharu had entered Australia from Fiji in February on a visitor’s visa and then begun business activities, including buying land and promoting a planned tourist resort.
Sueharu revealed his former Yakuza ties when arrested and admitted he had hidden his criminal record.
The AFP spokesman would not detail the man’s criminal history but said it was “extensive”.
Being a Yakuza member was not itself a criminal offence, but failing to declare previous criminal convictions was illegal under the Migration Act and made a person an illegal entrant automatically, he said.
Sydney police said more Yakuza members might be operating in Australia, particularly in states with casinos where money-laundering was suspected.
Japanese men were dealing with large amounts of money, particularly in Western Australia, Darwin and on the Gold Coast Yakuza members were easily identified by full-body tattoos, black suits and often had a little finger chopped off.
The society was linked with prostitution, contract murders and drug running.
A spokesman from the organised crime branch ( state intelligence ), Detective Chief Inspector Alan Rudd, said it was “highly likely” that the society was operating in Australia, especially in NSW. He said little was known about the group because its activities had been well hidden so far.
“We haven’t really got much on the Yakuza, but only because we haven’t been exploring in that direction … We tend to have concentrated on the Chinese and Vietnamese groups because we know what they’re up to,” he said.
Inspector Rudd said NSW in some ways provided ideal conditions for the Japanese society to flourish, “because it’s a business centre and there is a lot of real-estate activity”.
A Queensland police report has alleged that the Yakuza, with a $10 billion turn over, launders “black” money through property development.
The report says society members have intimidated legitimate tourist businesses into paying commissions for tour groups to be brought to their businesses.

This SMV was rammed through the tall wire gates of the Sydney Airport whilst being pursued by C District HWP and C District Anti Theft Squad.. The action caused total shut down of all runways until the SMV was cornered here at part of the airport. The driver was charged with commonwealth offences (by the Anti Theft) for ‘Endanger Safety of Aircraft’. DARWIN: A policeman drowned at the weekend after the patrol car he was travelling in rolled off a wharf at Darwin.
Police said yesterday that Detective Sergeant Ian Bradford, 37, and his partner were patrolling the Old Fort Hill wharf at 11.30pm on Saturday when their patrol car rolled off the edge of the dark pier.
Sergeant Bradford‘s partner, who was driving, struggled back to shore and was treated for shock and lacerations.
Police divers recovered Sergeant Bradford‘s body just after midnight. He is survived by his wife, Dianne, and three children.
Police said a report on the incident had been submitted to the Coroner.
Detective Sergeant Second Class Ian BRADFORD was a passenger in a CIB vehicle which was patrolling the Darwin wharf area just prior to midnight on the 28 January 1984.
The Wharf was being extended to join up with another section and was incomplete.
The vehicle went over the edge between the two wharves.
The driver, Detective Jon HAYES, managed to get out of the sinking car, and although he dived down several times to try to extricate the passenger, Detective Bradford was knocked unconscious and drowned inside the police vehicle.
Detective Sergeant Bradford joined the NT Police Force on 19 February 1973 and served in Darwin and Alyangula.
Ian and his partner, Jon Hayes were patrolling the Darwin Wharf area just prior to midnight on 28 January, when their police car drove off the Fort Hill wharf, which was under construction.
Despite Jon’s valiant efforts Ian drowned. He left behind his wife, Di, and three young children – Philip, Graham and Paula.
