Tragically Victoria Police lost one of our own yesterday in an apparent suicide.
The VPS member had dedicated a large amount of their working life supporting others within the organisation.
We have lost a much loved member of the policing community.
Out of respect to the member, their family, friends and colleagues, we will not name this member but rest assured, they will be sadly missed.
Rest in forever peace.

Police gear up for nostalgic chaos that was Beatlemania

SYDNEY: Scenes reminiscent of Beatlemania are expected tomorrow when rock superstar Paul McCartney makes his first in-store record appearance since the days of the Beatles.

Thousands of McCartney’s fans are expected to turn out to try to get a glimpse of – or meet – the former Beatle when he appears for 30 minutes at Brashs’ city store to sign copies of his latest album, Off The Ground.

EMI Music spokesman Tom Enright said police had been enlisted to assist with crowd control.

” We’ll have masses and masses of security guards to make sure that people file in and out of the store correctly, ” Mr Enright said.

” And of course, the store will be barricaded. ”

The control technician of the City of Sydney police, Inspector Paul Moseley, would not reveal how many police would be in attendance.

” There will be police on hand to assist security guards with the maintenance of order in the store, ” he said.

Escapers caught in Goulburn

Two prison escapers had been caught in Goulburn yesterday, after police received a tip that they had boarded a train to Goulburn from Sydney, Constable Paul Moseley, of Goulburn CID said yesterday.

The escapers had been serving six-month sentences at Silverwater Jail, near Parramatta.

One, Mr Anthony Coleman, 20, walked out of the jail early on Monday, and the other, Mr Gary Lee, failed to report back to the centre after being allowed weekend leave last Friday.

Three other prisoners who have escaped since last Friday are still at large.

Mr Raymond Wright, 24, serving 18 years for armed hold-up, cut bars in his cell and climbed the security wall at Goulburn Jail on Tuesday, and escaped.

Mr Barry Millane, 39, serving a life sentence for murder, escaped on Friday night while attending a basketball game at the Sydney Boys’ High School.

Earlier on Friday a young prisoner absconded during his regular cooking class at East Sydney Technical College at Darlinghurst.

Sending all my love to all the family. The memories we shared will never be forgotten. Will never forget the party at the West’s seeing him dressed up as a bikie with Leonie and how much he loved that Harley. I’ll always remember his gentleness and compassion. He was a very special and influential man. Thoughts are with you all and all the grandchildren.

Knew Richard ( Dickie ) from the time he joined the Police Cadets in 1962. Great mates during those wonderful days. We rowed in the re formed Police rowing team together with the likes of Glen Deholm and Bob Worland.
Dick and I went to Adelaide together in early 1966 on a camping trip visiting a number of ‘old’ former cadets along the way at various Police Stations in regional NSW. Lost contact unfortunately when I went to the bush that same year.
RIP mate and condolences to all the Doust family.

What a beautiful service for Richard. So pleased we could be part of it from the rolling hills of Dorrigo where he was born.
Richard’s Mum Glad Lawrence & my mother Ida Pullen, from Sydney went to Dorrigo in 1937 and met these two Dorrigo Dairy farmers. Glad married Albert Doust a 2nd cousin of my mothers. From that time our families have been close & would catch up at family gatherings over the years. It was great growing up with Richard, Margaret & Neroli in Dorrigo and more recently catching up with them at Nelson Bay at a fabulous dinner party with Geoff & Judy Washington in February. Our thoughts are with you all. A wonderful Celebration of Richard ‘s life.

Oliver Clive Waters (recorded as Oliver Clyne Waters in the NSW Police Gazette) was born about September 1893 at Hickeys Creek near Kempsey.

Oliver Clyne Waters was sworn in as a Probationary Constable of the NSW Police Force on the 6th January 1915. He was attached to Parramatta. He was confirmed as a Constable on the 6th January 1916 although this was done posthumously in 1918 .

On the 26th May 1915 Constable Waters joined the Australian Imperial Forces. He was attached to the 3rd Battalion 8th Reinforcements. The 3rd Battalion was in the 2nd and 3rd waves at Gallipolis. They were also involved in the battle of Lone Pine. Oliver did not arrive until November 1915 which was after these battles. However by December 1915 Oliver was wounded and evacuated with all of the AIF. The Battalion was sent to Egypt where they defended the Suez Canal.

In May 1916 the 3rd Battalion embarked for France and for the next 2½ years served in the trenches of the Western Front.  On the 27th July 1916 Oliver was wounded in action during the Battle of Pozieres. He was sent to hospital and eventually transferred to England for his injuries and other illnesses that he had contracted.

In September 1917 Oliver was transferred back to the 3rd Battalion. He was killed in action at Ypres, Belgium on the 8th November 1917. He was originally reported wounded and missing. Witnesses reported he was badly wounded from a shell in the hand, face and legs at Zonnebeke near Passchendaele. He was carried by comrades to some stretcher bearers who took him to a Canadian dressing station. There is no further information about him after that. His body was never found.

His name is on the Menin Gate Memorial in Belgium.

There are photographs of Oliver Waters in Police and Army uniform on Ancestry.
