Sgt 3/c Roger BERGAMIN was Highly commended for his outstanding courage and devotion to duty at Canley Vale on 23 November, 1981, when in the company of Sergeant 1/c E.G. Woolaston, he confronted Abdel Rahman Dehen who pointed a loaded .22 calibre rifle, with which he had just shot and seriously wounded his wife, in his direction.

The offender complied with a demand to drop the weapon and the Sergeant rushed forward and was able, with the assistance of other Police, to handcuff and arrest him.

A later examination of the offender’s weapon revealed a live bullet had jammed in the breech.

Awarded the Commissioner’s Commendation

C.R. ABBOTT, Commissioner,  20 December 1982.

The above entry was recorded from Roger BERGAMIN’s Service Record.  I am unaware what ( if any ) Award or Commendation that Ned WOOLASTON may have received from this same incident.

DAVID IS mentioned on the Police Wall of Remembrance

Senior Constable David Andrew Shean
On 5 April 2001, Senior Constable Dave Shean’s life was tragically cut short when he was killed in a traffic accident while responding to a crime in progress.
It came as no surprise to those who knew Senior Constable Shean to discover he was among the first to respond to a call for assistance. This is a mark of his character and of the professionalism he consistently displayed in serving the people of Queensland.
Senior Constable’s Shean’s service commenced in 1977. He performed duty in both the Darling Downs area and Brisbane before realising an ambition to serve in the Brisbane Traffic Branch. His versatility and knowledge was exemplified in the various roles he performed while serving in the South Brisbane District Training Office, the Brisbane Traffic Camera Office and the Metropolitan South Regional Traffic Adjudication Office.
His commitment to the community was further showcased by his active involvement with Radio Lollipop and with many police displays at the RNA and Brisbane Motor Shows. His contribution since 1988 to the Adopt-a-Cop program was highlighted earlier this year when the Waterford West State School unveiled a plaque dedicated to his memory in their garden of conciliation and reflection.
The contribution of Senior Constable Shean to policing in Queensland is reflected in the words of Assistant Commissioner Freestone who said, “In representing the Service and the community he so faithfully served, David has made the ultimate sacrifice in the execution of his duty.”
The positive contribution to policing made by Senior Constable Shean stands as a testament to him. He too, will be sadly missed by his family, friends and colleagues and the community he so ably served.

Dad’s final goodbye

I would like say thank you to each and every one of you for attending today.
Tell me how do you say goodbye to someone you would without a second thought give up some of your own life for them to live.
Knowing my dad he would never accept it and say ” don’t you worry about me sweetheart ”
Dad was gentle and patient. I never heard him yell, have an angry tone or even raise his voice.
Dad would ring me every year on my birthday and tell me the same two stories. The day i was born, and the other in the wee hours of the morning dad got me my milk and i returned the favor and got him his beer and we watched cartoons.
When i was young you were my superman. Strong, handsome, my protector, and you caught bad guys.
I guess every superhero gets older and needs a helping hand, because that’s the day you knocked at my door.
For the past 2 years it has been my honor, my greatest pleasure to be there for you, to love and care for you.
We shared so much in such a short time.
You held your head up high as you walked me down the isle.
we went to our favorite cafe every week and ordered the same thing.
Brought so many dvds the sanity lady knew who we were.
Spent Christmas’s together your favorite time of year.
You shared stories from work some funny and ones that brought tears to your eyes.
I would like to share with you the most precious memory, the last time we saw dad.
Thursday morning the kids and i went to dads. i needed to help dad get dressed. I told him ” lean on me dad i won’t let you fall ”
Once settled I said ” i have a surprise for you ”
it was a copy of crocodile dun dee one of dads favorites that we had downloaded for him. Dads face lit up the room.
watched the movie
it was time to go the kids said ” bye i love you grandpa ”
Dakota hugged him.
I told dad ” i love you so much dad ”
dad replied ” i love you to sweetheart ”
“” i see you tomorrow dad ”
i blew dad a kiss as i was leaving, he smiled and blew one back.
our last gift to each other was our last i love yous in person.
the most precious gift of all.
Dad i love and miss you more then my heart can bear.

Peter and Maureen Lonergan PIN was a great bloke worked Rockdale and Kogarah.
Brilliant detective.
At Campbelltown he and his wife used to start cooking a bbq at home 5am Christmas day until late christmas night. Used to call us when breakfast, lunch and dinner were ready and we’d go and pick up the food. Never cooked the prawns until we arrived.
He always said that he had Christmas off so he’d look after those who had to work.
Sad finish to his life – was alone. His brother Mark was a great bloke as well.
PIN would give u the last cent he had.
RIP mate. You were one of the best cops I knew.
