Pickering, near Sandy Hollow, in February 1972, when he engaged in the high speed pursuit of two armed and dangerous criminals, who shortly before had committed an armed hold up upon a Coolah Bank. Although Sergeant Beaumont was slightly wounded during an exchange of shots, the two member of the Force continued the pursuit, and after forcing the offenders’ vehicle off the roadway, chased them on foot but they eluded them in the darkness.

A cigar smoking Sergeant of Kogarah Police, who in his earlier career was a Piper in the Police Pipe Band ( in the early 1960’s ). He was also in Charge of the Police Canteen at police Headquarters and also worked at the Redfern Police Academy before being transferred to Kogarah in the 1970’s.
Also remembered for his neat calligraphy hand writing and his awesome baked meals on the last night ( Wednesday night – Thursday morning ) of the old seven nights – night shift.

His night shift cook up roast dinners were a thing of beauty. If you were his station reserve on night shift you knew it was going to be a great week. As all his friends and co-workers knew Andy had one big flaw which he conquered in his latter years.

FUNERAL OF A CONSTABLE – The funeral of constable Peter Dunn, who for 12 years was attached to the Metropolitan Police, and died on Tuesday evening, took place yesterday. At 1.30 p.m , the coffin covered with wreaths, was borne by six of deceased’s comrades at No 1 station from the residence off Pitt street, near Bathurst-street The cortege, which included about 100 constables representing all the Metropolitan and some suburban stations, was headed by the police band under Bandmaster Hutchinson.
A number of civilians were in vehicles.
The cortege went along Pitt street and turned into Liverpool-street, passing the Central Police Court, and then by way of George-street proceeded to the Mortuary station. The interment took place at Rookwood. The band with muffled drums played along the route the “Dead March” in ” Saul ” and Beethoven’s ” Dead March. ” Inspector Potter and Senior-sergeants Chambers and Roden were the principal police officers present.
Having found the grave stone of this man – information is gleaned that his wife, Mary, was in fact, the very FIRST NSW Police Matron and she served the Police of NSW for 42 years.
For those who don’t know – NSW Police had their own Ward at Prince Henry Hospital, Little Bay, NSW for many years and this woman ( together with numerous other nurses ) would have nursed hundreds upon hundreds of Police over her tenure at that Hospital.
This “Ward” was still in existence when I joined the NSWPF in 1975.

The memories this brings back, one of the many tales about the old Sandstone Police Station at Gosford was that Ted Albury was meticulous about signing the many pads that were in existence in those days.
His standard signature was “Noted E.G. Albury“.
A few fellows who shall remain nameless took it upon themselves to reproduce that signature on every piece of paper that existed in the Station.
Noted E.G.Albury was cropping up on files all around the State and was strongly rumoured to have been seen on the back of a calendar hanging in the Commissioners Office.
The camaraderie and fellowship which existed amongst the troops in those days will forever remain in my memories.

I knew John through his involvement with the volunteer emergency communications groupWICEN NSW Inc, a specialist squad of the NSW Volunteer Rescue Association. WICEN uses Amateur Radio, and other communications resources to serve the community, including during disasters.
He served this organisation as President, and State Coordinator (SCO), equivalent to Head of Squad.
He was also a member of HADARC, the Hornsby and Districts Amateur Radio Club, Inc. He has been a licensed Amateur Radio operator since 1955.
The following is the announcement to Amateurs, and to HADARC members. I also lived near John for a period.

We sadly advise John Howard VK2AMH became a Silent Key on Monday 16 July 2018 after a period of prolonged health and mobility problems. He was aged 88.
John was born 16 June 1930 at Muswellbrook, NSW. His father was a Superintendent of Police and John followed his father into the Police Force. John became involved with the police radio communications system and played a significant part in structuring police radio into all service vehicles.
As a radio amateur, he was first licensed as VK2AHM in 1955 when living at Earlwood, later changing his Callsign to VK2AMH. A long-time member of HADARC, John was also very active in WICEN.
A service will be held on Monday, 23 July 2018 at 1.30pm in the Camellia Chapel at Macquarie Park Crematorium.

Back in April 2016 Bob was in an induced coma on life support in Westmead hospital after heart surgery to insert a pace maker but by May 2016 was back home and slowly recovering from the ordeal.
