Hi everyone,
Sam Bass was my father. I just wanted to make a quick post to let everyone know of his passing and how much this group meant to him.
Last Sunday dad lost a battle he had been fighting and took his own life.
Anyone that knew Dad knew him as a lovable goofball with a giant heart that would give you the shirt of his own back.
Unfortunately, now one of the most beautiful and helpful human beings I’ve had the pleasure of knowing didn’t reach out for help when he needed it most.
My sister and I both served, and along with everyone in this group I’m sure we’ve all had more than our fair share of Friends lost to mental illness. I can tell you nothing I’ve experienced yet hits you quite like when it’s your father.
It’s ok to not be ok.
Please, please, please ask your mates how they’re doing, know YOU ARE NOT ALONE, and reach out to someone when you need.
Given the current circumstances we won’t be holding a funeral as such. Rather Sam will be cremated and once life is a bit less COVID crazy we scatter his ashes in Shoal Bay some time next year. Anyone is welcome.
Thanks to everyone in this group for allowing me to post and know that he loved you all and was on here multiple times a day.
Please feel free to send me a message on here if you feel you need and I’ll let everyone know more about the final goodbye when we do.
Regards
Mike Bass

Graeme, it was great working with you at Dubbo, in my role as the communications technical officer. The big search around Goodooga comes to mind. It heightened my existing respect for you, your decision making, your concern for the welfare of other police in the search and especially your devilish sense of humour. RIP, mate. Canberra Times (ACT : 1926 – 1995),

‘No reason’ for shooting mother

SYDNEY, Thursday. — Central Criminal Court was told today that a youth had killed his mother by shooting her through the back of her head for no apparent reason.

Robert George McAlister, 17, of Blowering Road, Tumut, pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter. The Crown accepted the plea to the lesser charge.

Detective Sergeant G. C. Rooskov, of Tumut, said McAlister had gone to the Tumut Police Station at 1pm on August 7 last year and said he had shot his mother. Sergeant Rooskov said McAlister, then 16, had shown no emotion while telling his story.

McAlister had said that after he had dug up a rabbit burrow, his mother had told him to return the spade to his aunt. As she was walking away he had shot her through the head.

Sergeant Rooskov said McAlister was a member of the Young Anglicans Fellowship, a member of a tight-knit and happy family, and an average student.

Mr Justice O’Brien remanded McAlister for sentence.

Graeme was a thoroughly decent human being and a friend to all that knew him.
On the day before his passing, he held the esteemed and usual job of being Father Christmas, at our retired police end of year party in Hervey Bay.
As it happened, we had a bit of time up our sleeve before lunch, so he was asked to give a talk on his career and family.
It was one that he spoke fondly of, and justifiably proud of. The next day he sadly passed.
RIP Graeme.

VALE
This morning at 9.15am EDST, Monday the 18 January 2021. The world became a sadder place and contains a great void in the hearts of many.
It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to inform all of the passing of:-
Raymond C. ROBINSON
“Robbo”
19/08/1953 – 18/01/2021
Registered No: 16203
Sergeant Retired, New South Wales Police Force
Class No: 138 14/01/1974 – 25/02/1974 Attested Pro/Constable
25/02/1975 Confirmed to Constable
25/02/1979 Promoted to Constable 1st Class
25/02/1983 Promoted to Senior Constable
Promoted to Sergeant 1989
Section 66 Inspector
What can I say Robbo was a close friend to myself and many others and a brother of the Thin Blue Line. He will be sadly missed by one and all even those that did not have the honour of meeting him in person. He was a larger than life character and a mentor to many in Law Enforcement and the Motorcycling world.
Robbo has ridden on ahead to check the roads and rides for those of us that will eventually join him.
R.I.P Brother, Til Valhalla
Funeral arrangements will be posted once they come to hand. Please keep Fay, Ashley and Robbo’s extended family in your thoughts and prayers at this of saddest time.

I am proud to have served as a Cop. I am proud of my brothers and sisters who also took the Oath to be one. I am disgusted in the behaviour of some in our community that would NEVER have had the guts to Serve yet seem to know that ALL Police are shit…. Well, you people that think that, have a good look in the mirror if you want to see a pile of crap then go and have a good meal, go and have a drink before you climb into your nice safe warm beds and keep in that little brain of yours that those people you say are shit willingly provide you with the safety that you enjoy while you scream obscenities at the them……
